Discriminatory socio-cultural practices, limited and ineffective health delivery systems and grinding poverty have all resulted in the low health status of women in Nepal. Recognizing this, HMG of Nepal has initiated the process of integrating women into mainstream development. This study assesses the status of gender mainstreaming in the health sector in Nepal. The study reviews the health plans, policies, programs, projects, legislation, strategies
and budget allocation in the health sector from the gender perspective. The study makes recommendations for the improvement of the overall status of women; for the creation of opportunities for women at the policy-making level; and for equal opportunities for both men and women in education, employment and health care.
