Behavioral and Sero Prevalence Survey among IDUs in Kathmandu Valley

It is estimated that one third of HIV infections are among IDUs. This study was conducted in four municipalities and some adjoining VDCs of Kathmandu, Lalitpur and Bhaktapur districts. The study estimated the rate of HIV among IDUS and assesses their ‘at risk’ behavior. The study assesses the size of the IDU community, socio-demographic trends, and the current level of HIV prevalence, HIV/AIDS awareness and needle sharing and condom use behavior among IDUs.
