Mainstreaming Gender in Water Aid, Nepal and Its Partner Organisations

2001

Nepal Water for Health (NEWAH) and Water Aid, Nepal jointly implemented 60 community-based drinking water
and sanitation projects in five development regions in Nepal. Of these, five pilot projects included a Gender and
Poverty (GAP) component. The main aim of these projects is to improve the economic condition of members of
the community by transforming the traditional roles of men and women in the community. New ERA performed a
gender specialist role in this project by providing advice and assistance to NEWAH and Water Aid Nepal in order
to raise levels of Gender and Poverty awareness within both organizations and to help improve their support to
NGOs partners and communities during the implementation of projects.
